Not Your Average Bun

This bun is extremely easy (it will literally take you 5 minutes) but looks like you've made a little extra effort thanks to the plait. All you need for this hair tutorial is a hair tie, bobby pins and a butterfly clip/hair grip. As with any hair up, this will work best on hair that hasn't been washed for a day or so as it will be easier to keep in place.

Step 1 Tie your hair up into a ponytail.
Step 2 Take a section of hair from the top of your pony tail.
Step 3 Plait this section and secure it away from the rest of the ponytail with a butterfly clip (you will use this later).
Step 4 & 5  Divide the remaining part of your ponytail into four sections. Loop each section under, one at a time, and secure at the base of the pony tail with a bobby pin or two. You should now have a messy little bun.
Step 6 Unclip your braid from Step 3, loop the end under and pin into the base of your bun.
Step 7 Loosen the plait slightly with your fingers and push it to one side.
Step 8 Finished look from the side.

    1. Ha! At Step 4, you literally split the hair into 4 sections and pin each section to form a bun around the hair tie...

    1. Hi there! I don't know how to do videos. Basically at step 4 you're just pining all your hair under. I do it in 3 or 4 pieces but you could do it all in one piece. Cheers

  4. This is super cute!!!! I think I'm going to try it tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at hairstyles but I'll give this a shot because it would be GREAT with my long hair.

    1. Hi Sonia, definitely! My hair is half way down my back. You may just have to use extra pins to loop the pieces of hair under to secure the weight of extra hair. Good luck x

    1. Plait means the front of your hair a.k.a your bangs. I hope this helps you out. :)

    2. She is referring to the braid as a plait. So slightly loosen the braided section to create more messy look.

  8. I just tried this, I have tonnnns of hair so I made a thicker braid, it didn't turn out as cute, my hair is long so it was hard tucking it in, but it turned out pretty ok! =) Thanks for the tip!
